Driver Discount Program

2026 Class Schedule

About the Driver Discount Program

Persons aged 55 and over who complete the Driver Discount Program qualify for a 10% discount on their auto insurance premiums for 3 years, according to Minnesota law. Upon completion of the course, participants must submit their class completion certificate to their insurance company. Plan ahead and take the course well in advance of your insurance due date. Please allow 5 weeks to receive your completion certificate by mail. CAST is not responsible for the distribution of certificates.

Our Driver Discount Program (DDP) courses are approved by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety and provided by the Precision Driving Center.  The course is a state-approved accident prevention/insurance discount course that is open to the public. Our PDC certified instructor, Steve Soeffker, teaches the class, utilizing the most up-to-date research in the field. Participants will be provided the latest information regarding driver and traffic safety, new laws, and vehicle technology.

As a result of law changes made by the 2024 Minnesota Legislature, MHSRC will no longer be offering the 8-hour Initial Prerequisite Course after July 1, 2024. The State of Minnesota and Department of Public Safety have eliminated the 8-hour requirement.

Driver Discount Programs are scheduled from 1-5pm. They are held in Room 112 at the CAST Senior Center, 600 North German Street, New Ulm, MN 56073. Minimum class size is 15 people, maximum is 48. Preregistration is required. Fee is $24 per person, payable by cash or check on the day of class.
